Seeing the Light Dropping down deep into the dreary depths of darkness Unable to climb out of the murky black Looking around to see nothing at all I can't seem to find my way back Unseen walls closing in on me Running blindly to find an escape Searching desperately for a way out Lost in a world of evil and hate Fighting savagely to keep from sinking I hold on as long as I can Invisible hands gently pull me Lower beyond a point I can no longer stand And just when I think that all is lost Hope explodes and pours from my heart Bright beams of light shine down on me Chasing away the shadowy dark Breaking away from the cold black hands I release myself from their icy grip Running toward the light that banished the evil I return from my horribly nightmarish trip Whispering voices fill my ears They beg me not to go I turn my back on all that's black And warm my face in the sun's glow* Feeling good to be away from that hell Walking around with everything in sight Feeling the hope flow through my body I'll never return to that sickly black night Purity and goodness has saved my soul With love and hope that I now create Happy now I'm alive and free Away from a world of evil and hate Written by Marc Corliss 1991
*Footnote: I believe that when God gave me the words for this poem, that it should have been "the Son's glow", referring to Jesus, but since, when I wrote this I was not yet saved, I did not understand, nor did I understand that the words were from Him to try to give me hope for my life. There is a story behind this poem. One that is a living testimony to how great God is and how much He loves us and wants us to be saved so that we can spend eternity with Him in His glory. I have written a testimony about the poem that you can see Here. Some of you may already recognize the words from this poem. Some friends of mine who had a metalcore band called REDEEM made a song out of this poem with the same title "Seeing the Light" and recorded it on their album "A Diadem of Beauty". I am very blessed by the work that they put into the song and how it turned out. I love it very much. I am also blessed and honored that God took what He gave to me 10 years ago and now is using it to reach people with it. For that I am forever grateful and will Praise Him always.
